About
SQuare Solutions is a software house based in Kraków, Poland. We build custom software for companies whose systems are not an add-on to the business, but part of it.
We work in a model that larger software companies find hard to sustain: one person runs the project from the first conversation about requirements all the way to production deployment and later development. Nothing is lost in the handover between analyst, development team and maintenance.
Most of our experience comes from the financial sector — banking, leasing and document management. These are environments where software has to be not only functionally correct, but also predictable, auditable and resilient to a shifting regulatory landscape.
We work both on new systems and on systems that have been running for years and need someone who will first understand their business logic and only then start changing the code.

Rafał Palej
Senior Software Engineer · Tech Lead
For eight years I have been designing and building .NET systems for financial institutions in Poland and Sweden — from the first conversation about requirements, through architecture, to production deployment and ongoing maintenance. I work best where understanding the business process has to meet technical decisions built to hold up not just today, but years down the line.
I specialise in .NET backend engineering, with experience extending into integrations, system architecture and working directly with client-side teams. Before proposing a solution, I make sure I understand what success actually means for the client — that is where good architecture starts, not with picking a technology.
Engagement models
We match the commercial model to the nature of the project, not the other way round. Every quote is prepared individually after a conversation about scope.
Fixed price
Scope, deadline and price agreed upfront. Works well for projects with clearly closed boundaries, preceded by solid analysis.
Time & Material
Settlement based on time actually worked. The natural choice where scope matures during the project and priorities shift between sprints.
Maintenance and development
An ongoing monthly engagement: ticket handling, feature development and guaranteed availability. This is the model we work in with our clients’ leasing systems.
Partnership
A share of the profit generated by business features instead of part of the time-based fee. For projects where a rollout translates directly into revenue and we want to carry risk alongside you.
How we work
A repeatable process every client of ours knows. No surprises about who is responsible for what, or when you will see working software.
- 01
Initial conversation
Free and with no obligation. We get to know the problem, the business context and the constraints. At this stage we also say plainly if we are not the right contractor for the job.
- 02
Analysis and scope
We write down the functional requirements, set priorities and define the boundaries of the first release. Scope we do not understand does not make it into the quote.
- 03
Architecture and quote
We propose a technical solution, an engagement model and a schedule. And we explain why this one — including what the alternatives would cost.
- 04
Implementation
We work iteratively. At every stage you get working software to look at, rather than a progress report.
- 05
Production deployment
Environments, CI/CD, data migration, acceptance testing and knowledge transfer. We treat deployment as part of the project, not as a separate engagement.
- 06
Development and maintenance
We stay with the system for as long as it is needed — handling tickets, developing features and responding to changes in the business environment.
Technologies
The stack we work with daily and run in production — not a list of fashionable buzzwords.
